Today I get to make my teenage dreams come true by talking with Tiffanie Debartolo, the writer and director of my fave 1996 rom com Dream For An Insomniac. Tiffanie made this movie to get a date with her now husband so I guess she invented manifestation? We talk about her movie/bio pic, the art of leaving Hollywood, ketamine treatment, our favorite rom coms, actual insomnia, and Courtney love throwing a makeup container at Madonna during her interview with Kurt Loder at the 1993 video music awards. I literally felt like I was in a San Francisco coffee shop, hanging out, debating whether Eddie Vedder or Bono was Jesus or God. This is one of my favorite all time conversations.

This week I talk with brilliant actor, comedian, writer Ele Woods and wonderful guest cohost Charlene Westbrook about the 1995 friend rom-com, Boys On The Side! We discuss how this movie is a beautiful staple of queer cinema, has a perfect soundtrack and is at it's core about finding our chosen family . We delve away from the movie for about 20 minutes while Ele teaches Charlene and I about the Marvel universe but I think it all connects in the end.

This week I talk with writer and comedian Emily Schmidt of CBS’s Ghosts and Fox’s Welcome to Flatch! Emily and I discuss the insane 2001 Meg Ryan time travel rom com that is Kate and Leopold. We come up with roughly 17 alternate versions, determine that modern day Kate would be non-binary and involved in NFT’s, and Emily shares how the movie was a queer escape rom com for her 8th grade self.

All the way from Clueless to Kids. And we got to have a really fun convo about female directors, diversity in filmmaking, queer cinema, the pre-Giuliani club scene, and mourning 90’s “hanging out” culture. If you loved listening to Marc and want to enjoy some amazing niche films live with other humans, follow him @waywardcinema !

Today I talk with actor and comedian Hannah Pilkes about her favorite rom com, Serendipity! It's 2001. You find yourself at bloomingdales. And you NEED their last pair of black cashmere gloves because New York City is plum out of black gloves. But guess what, John Cusack wants the SAME gloves. One thing leads to another, you get the gloves and you get the guy....10 years later after you psychically break up his wedding. Listen as Hannah and I talk about the magic of this movie, her own serendipitous experience and the magic of Kate Beckinsale's early 2000's wardrobe.  For more rom com content follow @femaleapartmentsfrom90smovies Follow Hannah @hannahpiles!
